Positive reinforcement is not a thank you card or a positive affirmation, and its not a cash reward or promotion for a successful project. What project managers needs to learn about positive reinforcement is its relationship to human behavior and getting the most performance out of each individual. We start by lessening the focus on outcomes and instead focus on human activities that must be aligned with project objectives.

Approaches to management, including project management, have included many fads like management by objectives, situational management, and management by walking around. They have come and gone in organizations because they have not provided consistent success because they do not address the underlying engine of project success or failure which is mainly human behavior. We will discuss scientifically proven techniques that will help you get discretionary effort out of your project team members that will contribute to your and your project's success.
