PDU Overview:
PMI's Continuing Certification Requirements (CCR) supports the ongoing professional development of Project Management Professionals (PMPs) and the maintenance of PMP certification. The measures used to quantify these requirements are called Professional Development Units (PDU's). Generally, one PDU is the equivalent of one hour spent in an activity approved by PMI for meeting CCR.
The Atlanta Chapter, as a Registered Education Provider (REP), may assign PDU's for certain Chapter educational activities. These PDU's must be registered with PMI before they can be reported by PMPs. This page provides information about PDU's that may be earned by attending specified
Atlanta Chapter educational activities. Other PDUs may be earned by volunteering for Chapter activities or responsibilities. These are not currently covered on this page, but are determined by Chapter Officers, based on PMI rules.
Maintaining Your PMP® Certification
Project Management Institute (PMI®) Project Management Professionals (PMP®s) must accrue a minimum of sixty Professional Development Units (PDUs) every three years. The Professional Development Program (PDP) cycle begins January 1st of the
year following initial certification. However, you can start accumulating
PDUs immediately after your certification. PMI® now calls this re-certification program the Continuing Certification Requirements (CCR). To read details about the CCR or to get the latest updates to requirements for maintaining your certification, please visit

Chapter Meetings PDUs Policy:
The Atlanta Chapter, in an attempt to leverage the use of our web pages and cut down on administrative load, will not provide individual "certificates" of attendance at Chapter Meetings which includes pre-meeting Seminars and Workshops. The PDU's for these events will be found on this page. This page, along with your receipt should provide documentation of your attendance. If you are audited and can't provide this receipt, the Chapter maintains records of paid attendance and will provide backup proof of your paid attendance, when requested.
Chapter Seminars and Educational Event PDUs Policy:
For Seminars not included in a Chapter Meeting and for Training Classes that are eligible for PDU's, attendees will be provided with a Certificate of Attendance. This certificate will identify the number of PDU's which the Chapter intends to register with PMI. The PDU number will also be available from links on this page.
Disclaimer: The Atlanta Chapter can not insure that every paid attendee stayed for the seminar, either in whole or in part. We can verify that you paid. You are reminded that as a PMP, you signed the Code of Professional Conduct, and let this guide your reporting of PDU's.
PDU Coordinator: (Chair)
This position is responsible for identifying Chapter educational activities that qualify for PDU's, registering them with PMI and providing this information to PMP's. (There is no charge for this service) PMP's are responsible for reporting their own PDU's to PMI on the proper form.

Reporting PDUs from the Chapter Lists to PMI:
The easiest way to report PDUs is to use the online form on the PMI website. To begin, first login to http://www.occe.ou.edu/pmi/PMI_Member/PDUlogin.php3. Any event with Chapter assigned PDU numbers will have to be reported under "Category 3: REP Program / PMI component event". Next, you need to know the PDU #, which comprises of Provider ID ("C010" for the Atlanta Chapter) and the Course ID. For convenience, the Chapter's PDU List for 2005 provides the full number, including both components, along with the total PDUs, dates and event title information. Enter the PDU# and verify the information pulled up by the system. You need to enter the dates and the number of PDUs, which you can obtain from the PDU List accessible from the following section.
Chapter PDU Lists By Year:
05/01/02 - Note: Since Online Entry of PDUs is now available, it is assumed that PDUs will no longer be sent in via mail or fax. For this reason, the Word File has been discontinued for 2002. We will continue to provide the years 1997 through 1999 until there is no longer a need to report PDUs from these years.
11/15/01 - Note 1: We have mined old web pages and have identified meetings and seminars that qualify for PDUs from 1997 and 1998. Note 2: The Table below has links to a series of tables you can use to send in your PDUs by year. See the Instructions below.
PDU's for Articles - DID YOU KNOW?
Many Project Management Institute (PMI) component organizations have been requesting confirmation that Project Management Professionals (PMP) can receive Professional Development Units (PDU's) for submissions, covering a project management topic, which are published in a component newsletter. After review, these activities have been approved for credit based on the educational experience gained through the research devoted to composing these submissions. PMP's may claim credit for a published newsletter submission as a Self-directed Learning PDU activity.
To do so, PMP's should identify the time spent in review of the educational resources used to prepare the submission. After publication in the newsletter, they may submit a PDU category 2sdl claim earning one PDU for each hour spent conducting this research. This same method can be used to earn PDU's for submissions on a project management topic that are published in a corporate newsletter.
More information on Self-directed Learning PDU's can be found on page five of the Continuing Certification Requirements (CCR) handbook. The handbook can be downloaded from the PMI Web site (http://www.pmi.org/) or requested in printed form by contacting PMI's customer service department at pmihq@pmi.org or +1-610-356-4600. Active PMI Members may request materials directly from the PMI Web site (https://secure.pmi.org/requestinfo/).
We are always looking for articles in our next newsletter so submit your articles to newsletter@pmiatlanta.org
