PMI Atlanta - Scholarships
Introduction:

The PMI Atlanta Chapter would like to encourage Atlanta Chapter project management practitioners to pursue the goal of obtaining an undergraduate or graduate degree in Project Management or in a Project Management related subject. In order to accomplish this, the Chapter will offer three $2000 scholarships each year. These scholarships will be presented to the three applicants who, in the opinion of the Board of Directors, have shown themselves to be the most qualified candidates based on the published criteria for eligibility. All applicants meeting the basic qualifications will be considered. The Scholarships Subcommittee, led by its Chair will review the information from each of the applicants and recommend the three most qualified to the Board. The Board may, at its discretion, request that another candidate be provided. If this request is made, the Scholarship Committee will provide the next most qualified candidate for consideration. More information on the qualifications and selection criteria can be found on these web pages.

Schedule:

The Scholarship Award schedule will not conform to the regular school year. This process assumes the candidates are already enrolled in a PM course of study, and the schedule will culminate with the awards being presented during the Chapter Dinner Meeting in January the following year. An award letter will be mailed by PMI Atlanta to notify the selected scholars during November. PMI Atlanta will deliver the actual check to the recipient in December. The President & VP - Professional Growth will introduce the winners with a certificate in January.

Schedule Dates:
  1. Applications accepted beginning - June 1
  2. Application submittal cutoff - Post marked by August 30
  3. Application review complete and submitted to Board for approval - September 30
  4. Board Award Decision complete - October 30
  5. Awardees Notified - November 30
  6. Check Mailed - December
  7. Presentation of awards during Chapter Meeting - January
Please read the Disclaimer and Policy prior to applying for a scholarship.

Disclaimer:

The Atlanta Chapter of PMI provides this service to our members with the understanding that applying provides no guarantees regarding the awarding of these scholarships. The Atlanta Chapter of PMI has the option of awarding up to three scholarships a year. If in the opinion of the Scholarships Subcommittee, no candidates meet the basic qualifications, no scholarships will be awarded for that year.

PMI Atlanta anticipates continuation of this program for the foreseeable future, however the Chapter retains the right to discontinue the program or revise the amount, process, and eligibility criteria at any time.

The eligibility criteria described below is the basic qualification for consideration for a scholarship. In the event that there are more than three qualified applicants, the Scholarship Committee will review the application documentation and select the three candidates felt to be the most deserving, based on class performance, support for project management, and other factors that will be published at a later date, but prior to the close of the application process. The decision of the Board will be final, and not open to question by any of the candidates.

Policy:
  • Any material misrepresentation of the facts in the candidate's application, whether discovered during the verification process or later, will result in automatic withdrawal of the application from consideration and the candidate will be banned from applying again in the future.
  • This scholarship will only be awarded to an individual one time, and it is not renewable. Prior winners of this scholarship may not apply again.
  • Qualified candidates NOT selected, may submit again the following year if they still meet the qualifications.
  • Once awarded, the student may apply the money to either tuition, books, or other legitimate school expenses incurred with attendance in Project Management related courses leading to a bachelor's or higher degree.
  • The Chapter will award up to three scholarships of $2000.00 each year.
  • Scholarship checks will be made out to the student.
  • It is anticipated that this award is not subject to federal and state taxes as it is made directly to the school in the student's name. If this is incorrect, and PMI Atlanta is obligated to report the award to the appropriate tax authorities, the Scholarships Subcommittee will notify the recipients in a timely manner and provide the appropriate tax documentation.
  • Finally, the decision of the PMI Atlanta Board is final and binding on the applicants. By submitting an application, candidates agree to abide by this policy.
Chair:

The PMI Atlanta Chapter Scholarships Chair, is responsible for all facets of the Scholarship Process, including developing and maintaining the process, identifying and engaging committee volunteers to participate in developing and maintaining the process, and managing the selection of the Scholarship winners each year.

In addition, the Chair is responsible for development of an annual budget for expenses associated with the operation of the Scholarship program. This budget will include the Scholarships themselves, postage fees for US Mail Communications and any other printing or communications costs.

It will be the responsibility of the Scholarships Chair to identify the correct information for the transmittal of the checks, and to verify that they are received and credited to the student's accounts.
