Description:

In today’s wired world, Project Managers have access to talent from around the globe. This global talent pool provides Project Managers the ability to tap into unique knowledge resources with diverse skill sets. As a Project Manager, you are expected to get results, mold your project team into a driving force, without any real direct authority over the team members, because they come from all over the organization, and possibly, all over the globe. Typically, a good deal of effort is put into finding the right team members with the appropriate experience and knowledge needed. The challenge is finding the most productive way to bring together team members with diverse views, cultures and backgrounds, maximize their collective expertise, and arrive at decisions that the entire team supports. The potential is great, however, there are challenges to leading a virtual team. Distance, culture, time zone differences, and alignment can make good team work difficult to achieve. Overall, virtual teams are very similar to traditional teams, however, communication and team building occur more naturally in traditional teams. So, Project Managers of virtual teams must take deliberate actions to build in activities that are vital to project team success. This seminar provides an introduction to the tools needed to develop the success factors necessary to lead virtual teams to new levels of effectiveness in the digital age.

Course objectives:

  • Create a virtual team community based on relationships and camaraderie.
