Architectural, Engineering, & Construction (AEC) Forum - 191008

Lessons in Crisis and Challenge Management
presented by Neville Anderson, President, Basha Services, LLC

The PMI Atlanta AEC Forum is a focus group that hosts regular events with ranging topics in the architectural, engineering, and construction fields. We will show the importance of solid project management in these related fields of study.

Presentation Details

Crisis Management is defined as the process by which an organization deals with major unpredictable events that threatens to harm the organization, its stakeholders, or the general public. Basha Services often takes on its client’s crisis to lessen the stress on the customer, minimize risk, to restore normalcy, and to protect the life and health of those involved in and affected by the work. Project Management and Incident Command Structure are key to creating an integrated organizational structure that allows for assessing the problem, planning for a desired outcome, bringing the right resources to the project, and achieving success.

The presentation will show examples of how Project Management and Incident Command Structure was used to solve major crisis and challenges in the following projects:

1. Deepwater Horizon – Scaling from a 400-person firm to a 4,000-person organization in two-months.

2. Atlantic Steel – Removing more than 12,000 truckloads of contaminated soils from Atlantic Steel without significant effect on Atlanta downtown traffic, Georgia Tech, and without a vehicle or personnel accident.

3. Train Derailment Graniteville, SC with 9-fatalities – Assessing and cleaning up in the aftermath of a Chlorine gas release where 9-people were killed after exposer to the gas.

4. Hurricane Katrina – Managing a response where no housing is available for a team of 400 workers.
