Virtual Chapter Event: The Importance of the Risk Register to Successful Project Implementation

The risk register is an invaluable tool aimed at identifying possible areas of risk exposure.  The register identifies and logs risk for the project manager while collectively providing a consolidated matrix of areas that require a solution before, they become problems.  Finally, the use of the risk register increases confidence to project stakeholders that tangible mitigation measures have been introduced.  The purpose of this discussion is to advise primary stakeholders of the questions one should ask when working from small to large scale projects to increase probabilities of successful and non-eventful implementation.

Charles J. Beard is Senior Vice President, Business Risk and Controls Director (Consumer) for KeyBank based in Cleveland, Ohio. Charles provides oversight and risk assurance functions to include, controls and exam management preparation, business development, strategic planning, process improvement and project/information management, and change management.  He has over 22 years of demonstrated success in the development and implementation of new processes and controls that reduce/mitigate risks while improving efficiency and productivity. His experience includes prior positions with companies such as EarthLink Inc., BellSouth Telecommunications/at&t, American Cellular Communications, Fiserv, Mansfield Energy, SunTrust Bank, Inc, and USAA Federal Savings Bank. Beard has various degrees including Bachelors and Masters in Business Administration, MS in Quality Management, M. Jur. (Risk and Compliance Law), and M. Div. from Morehouse (ITC). In addition, Charles is certified in Six Sigma improvement methodologies (Black Belt), Helix Facilitation, and Project Management. He thanks God for three of the many blessings in his life Galetha Tate Beard, wife of 27 years, and daughter’s Gabrielle Cherilyn and Martha AnnMarie.   He lives in San Antonio, Texas with his family.
