"From Project Manager to Producer: Is There a Difference?"

Producer and Project Manager – the job descriptions for these titles can vary from company to company or industry to industry, but more often than FerrellLisanot, they are used interchangeably.  However, there is a difference in what is actually required from each role and understanding that difference is vital to your project – and career. It's more than vernacular—it's about mindset. 

The discussion will touch on topics that include:

Biography

Lisa Ferrell, Executive Producer

Lisa Ferrell is a seasoned production professional whose background encompasses television series and film development and production/post production for television, film and commercials.
 
Lisa began her career as an assistant in a film studio with a First Look Deal with a major network. As the “D-Girl, her responsibilities included finding and identifying story ideas worthy of adaptation into a script, and potentially a feature film; and writing script coverage for scripts submitted to the production company. 

She has since worked in series and tele-film development for such companies as CBS, Lifetime Television/Hearst Entertainment, NBC and TBS. While at motion capture studio Giant Studios/Profile, she was involved in the post production of films that include New Line Cinema’s “Lord of the Rings” trilogy and Sony Imageworks animated holiday feature “Polar Express” directed by Robert Zemekis and starring Tom Hanks. She was also instrumental in creating the pilot episode for the long-running “Ripley’s Believe It or Not!” series for TBS.
 
Lisa has served as Executive Producer for several of Atlanta’s foremost post production, motion capture and VFX facilities, including the Toronto-based SPIN VFX, and has helped create creative for some of the foremost advertising agencies and brands in the world.
 
After starting Lisa Ferrell Productions in 2016, Lisa worked on numerous projects that for such clients as J Walter Thompson Inside New York, Hartsfield Jackson Airport, CARE USA, Toys R Us, music videos, a number of short indie films and concept pitch projects. She is currently co-Producing a documentary on Advertising Pioneer Bill Sharp and the history of Blacks in Advertising along with co-Producer/Director filmmaker Bill VanDerKloot.
 
 Lisa currently serves as Co-President of the Georgia Production Partnership, is on the Board of Directors / Director of Education for the Milledgeville Film Festival and serves on the Advisory Board of ASIFA South.
