"The End of the PMO - Creating and Sustaining PMO Value" by Eric Norman, Managing Partner - Norman & Norman Consulting LLC

When we look carefully at the most successful PMOs and compare them to those that struggle, there are a few characteristics among the vital ones that consistently set them apart. In this discussion we will review these characteristics to focus on critical aspects of PMOs that bring sustainable value to organizations.

In the initiative management world, delivering real value seems to be the most elusive aspect of any Program Management Office or PMO.  And because of this, the PMO seems to be one of the first places organizational leaders look to “right-size” or “optimize”, reducing the impact and potential value PMOs might generate for their organizations.  Perhaps that’s why there are so many articles – many of them addressing this very issue, appearing in our literature these days, and so many qualified practitioners reluctant to take roles in PMOs.
