"Let's Start Learning from Lessons Learned" by Dave Davis, PMP, PgMP, PBA, ACP, CSM, DASSM, AHPP, PMI-ATP

The PMI Atlanta Healthcare Forum has 9 planned sessions throughout 2022. Proposed topics include IT & IT PMO in Healthcare, Healthcare SME/Domain Forums such as Clinical, Laboratory, Research, Tomorrow's Healthcare & Government practices/law, Thought Leadership in Healthcare, and Innovation in Healthcare Technology.

Almost every methodology has a process that includes “capturing lessons learned,” but do we really close the loop and actually “apply lessons learned”? Have you ever been trained in how to analyze lessons learned to utilize them in your new project? Do you have “retrospectives” that intend to capture your lessons learned and identify improvement opportunities in both the product and process? Do you have them on paper, but not in practice?

This presentation will take a serious look at the lessons learned process in all methodologies across the continuum and see how we can better improve application of this knowledge to our overall product delivery in the PMO. Dave will discuss:

• The actual capture of lessons learned from a traditional PM perspective and how that is now evolved to retrospectives in the current agile development world
• Lessons learned in relationship to knowledge management
• How we should effectively tag our lessons learned and establish a capability to utilize this information so the next project manager can retrieve it and apply to their project

Biography  

Dave Davis, PMP, PgMP, PMI-PBA, PMI-ACP, DASSM, CSM, AHPP, ATP is a practitioner and recognized professional in project and program management, leadership, change management, and business acumen.

Regarding Agile, Dave has been a SCRUM Master and a Product owner on several initiatives. He orchestrated several Agile teams while implementing Brilliant Factory at General Electric. Dave was a Change Manager for implementing WorkDay and an entire HR process transformation. He is currently using Discipline Agile principles at OhioHealth while integrating new hospitals into the OhioHealth network. This includes technical workstreams for devices, identity management and HR implementation, security mitigation, network migration, and implementation of EPIC. Dave is currently mentoring a University of Dayton IT Capstone Project on creating a PM Agile Toolkit for small non-IT Projects.
