The March meeting for PMI Atlanta’s Healthcare Forum was an enlightening presentation by Jaleann M. McClurg titled “Competing IT Priorities: An Operating Model for Data Stewardship and Business Architecture – Is it the Cure?”
Ms. McClurg is well versed in the subject. She has MPH, CSM, CHTS-TR, and AHIMA certifications and is an approved ICD-10 CM Trainer.
The discussion kicked off talking about the “onion diagram” of how environment, behavior, competencies, and beliefs determine identity and mission. Jaleann then reviewed what are expected to be the healthcare IT trends in 2015 and the competing priorities of the ICD-10 conversion (which has been called “the Y2K of Healthcare”), new systems, and new technologies.
Jaleann showed why data stewardship is so important. Data stewardship is the management and oversight of data assets to provide high-quality, consistent data to business users. She then reviewed a model of what makes up a successful data stewardship landscape and operating model.
Ms. McClurg’s presentation wrapped up with a discussion about business architecture, including a blueprint of what BA includes. She led the group in a review and discussion of different reference models in use today, showing how each organization can fit a model to their particular needs.
The Forum concluded with a Q&A and discussion session, where the group shared their own experiences and delved further into the topics Jaleann presented.
The Healthcare Forum appreciates Jaleann providing us with a very interesting and timely presentation.
The next Healthcare Forum will be on Wednesday, April 15, at 6 pm at the Philips Healthcare office in Alpharetta.
