DarioDario Lizcano (pictured left) and Michelle Mayes had a wonderful day at Meadowcreek High School’s Career Day. It was a 4-hour event that focuses on creating a critical link between the classroom and the workplace by allowing students to explore various career options so they can make informed educational and career choices. The Education Team had the opportunity to interact with about 40 students introducing them to the wonderful world of Project Management. The students gained exposure into the profession as they learned about Project Management career paths, Project Management degrees, and Project Management certifications. The Education Team also provided the young men and women insight into their day-to-day work and discussed the importance of education as they prepare for their careers.

Ambria Moore (pictured right - center) participated in South DeKalb High School’s Career Day. Ambria had a great time educating the students on Project Management and learned all but one Ambriastudent, who approached the PMI table, had no knowledge of the profession. To ensure the students could make the connection, Ambria used the Career Day event as a “project” which resonated with the students. She explained the value of being a member of PMI, benefits of learning more about project management, steps to acquire a PMI certification, and rules to apply for a PMI scholarship. The students were encouraged to go online to learn more about PMI Global and the PMI Atlanta Chapter which some proceeded to do at that very moment!

MichelleLastly, Michelle Mayes (pictured left) participated in Shiloh’s High School Career Day. She interacted with over 100 students by answering education and career development questions, as well as explaining the discipline of project management and the PMP Certification. Some industries that were of interest to the students were: engineering, healthcare, technology, entertainment, and education. Michelle discussed how project management is used in every industry and provided simple examples that resonated with the students. The students walked away with an understanding of how project management can be used in their industry of choice, or in their everyday lives.
